Approxmatly 1990 Chatham Precision Moved from Sterling NJ to Heinsburg Vermont. Greg moved to Vermont with the company rented for a while and in 1993 bought a house in Fairfax Vt. In 1993 Chatham precision went out of Business due to being Financially over extended, and a cut back in defense spending during the Clinton years.
Years At Chatham Precision 1986 to 1993
1994 Nortech LLC , Fairfax Vermont Started in Greg's 2 car garage. The Garage had to be improved with concrete floor, Insulation, Siding, Wiring, air line, etc. The machinery that he had been collecting was set up and put to work as a business. Greg made up a cover letter, resume, and facility list as a sales tool, But most on the work came thru word of mouth from people He had worked with at Chatham Precision.
In the late 1990's Work flow was slow and hard to come by, Greg took a job at Flex-A Seal in Essex Jct Vermont.
Machines used CNC mills with Fanuc control, Cincinnati with Vickers control.
He continued to work evenings in the Garage to satisfy the work flow still coming thru the shop.
Years at Flex-A-Seal 1999 to 2003
Up to this point all Greg's machinery in the Garage was all manually operated. He knew times were changing and he would have to take the leap into CNC if things were going to change.
In late 2002 Greg Noticed an ad in one of the trade magazines for Hurco VM1, and liked what he saw. He called Brooks Machinery to inquire about it. They informed him about a upcoming Machine Show In Southern NH that he went to. They had a VM1 set up and running. Nice machine, and the machine was small enough to fit thru a normal garage door.
After refinancing the house for the down payment and taking a loan from the bank the VM1 machine was delivered in early 2003.
Having a CNC mill with a control that Greg was familiar with made a big difference in the work flow, He was able to leave Flex-a-Seal and concentrate full time in the Garage.
in 2008 the 5 year loan on the VM1 was paid off, it was time to upgrade the old Clausing Lathe. After a trip to Eastech Machine show in Springfield Mass to look at the Prototrak machines, refinancing the house again for the down payment and taking a loan from the bank, the Prototrak was delivered in early 2008.
Summer 2009 Things were going well enough to expand the shop out another 16 feet. Enough and add another Hurco CNC Mill. September 2009 a Hurco VM10 was delivered to newly expanded floor space.
Companies worked for Pretech Plastics, Bio-Tek, DMS Machinery, Flex-A-Seal, Beta Technologies, Microstrain.
Currently We are still In Fairfax Vermont and have one employee plus Greg's wife helps out when necessary. We stlll concentrate on Prototype and Short Production Run work.
